Sound Of Color as letters recording different memories, through different times and places; an attempt to remind us how we were shaped by our own past, and inevitably, what we might become in the future. It is a cross between familiar memories, time-built flashbacks and representations of contemporary life.

Local culture has always been a national symbol: one of the means of reviving memories and strengthening the foundation of an independent spirit; As a stabilizing factor, providing a sense of security in a century of social change, it forms a nation's identity and revives traditional heritage values. Artists in the M Bars of Color use the language of contemporary art to explore history, aesthetics, connect generations and forge a new tradition.

I think the new tradition is the spirit of experimental art practice, influenced by contemporary music, but developed from the foundation of traditional art. Artists develop indigenous materials, blending their cultural origins with personal expression in the language of contemporary art. The project explores the concepts of tradition and modernity, opening dialogue between the mediums: literature, poetry, experimental/acoustic music, electronic music, movement and traditional theatre. The creative process offers a new way of seeing and handling contemporary artists, in which co-creation plays an important role. Not only within the framework of the tradition, but extending to many lands and cultures. It also creates a bridge between musical genres, original or newly composed works, combining traditional instruments with Western instruments. Sound of Color also creates a space that promotes free-spirited, experimental creations and encourages artists to continue to discover individual voices in their fields.

The Undercurrent of Red River

The Undercurrent of Red River is a composition rich in the spirit of folk humor, with the main material coming from Cheo art. The work is inspired by the female character in Cheo art, using the feminine as a strong wave, the desire to break and escape from reality. The music material is mixed with Jazz, with the way of playing "scratching", "sample" the laughter of the character Cheo (Artist Ngoc Minh - Vietnam Cheo Theatre). In those melodies, contemporary movement is in dialogue with the cheo fan dance movement – one of Vietnam's oldest theatrical art forms.

The Undercurrent of Red River has been introduced in Music and Art in Action magazine by Sandra Kurfuerst - Professor Doctorate - Institute of Ethnology University of Cologne, the work is also permanently posted on MAiA website located in University of Exeter Digital Archives.

Fragility

Fragility is a narrative with the traditional chords, floating of the zither, reminiscent of the space of old memories and the dialogue with the contemporary through the language of sound/modern music. Fragility is also a metaphor for the state of past memories and its continuation in the present.

Modern

Modern was inspired by the work "Red Numbers" - a famous satirical novel by writer Vu Trong Phung, and "sample" lines from the movie adaptation released in 1990 (directed by Ha Van Trong and Long Chuong). "Red Number" refers to the bad habits of the urban bourgeois society of Vietnam with its "virtual life", following a ridiculous civilization, and lashing out at the "urification" movements that were flourishing at that time. in the name of "civilization", "progress"... but forgetting the traditional morality.

In a time-travel back to the "westernized" era, narrated by electronic music, scratching DJ combined with trumpet sound (the "standard jazz" genre) rich in the 1930s sound. Modern emphasizes the implication and transformation of the Vietnamese language, typically the line "The cardigan sucks, the pants wait a minute" - a humorous joke in the reform era that only Vietnamese has can be transmitted.
