See The Sound

Artistic Driector & Curator: Nguyen Quoc Hoang Anh

I recognize the importance of sustainable cultural development linked to the public interest and that heritage and local culture will become a cultural concept of the future, as the foundation on which new creation combined with past values, where the public can also co-create new values, share and interact.

See The Sound project was initiated by me in 2017, creating a music exchange space and promoting interaction between young people who are practicing morden and traditional music with generations of local artists as well as international. At the same time, it connects the diversity community of artists working in different art forms: Classical music, Hip-Hop, Electronic, Beatbox, Cheo tradition art, Hmong folklore... Opening a dialogue on the topic of filmmaking about music in the community. young documentaries and especially about folk and traditional music. In the process of making See The Sound, more footage was taken about the practice of folk culture and music of the ethnic minority community. The project then sent back all the footage of the artisan teaching the young people old folk songs.

See The Sound works more deeply with local heritage through field stays, co-creating new art forms based on traditional art forms, and implementing community cultural activities aimed at honoring and preserving the heritage identity diversity.

See The Sound documentary series explores negative perceptions and stereotypes surrounding traditional music. In this imaginative documentary, various storytellers delve into the symbolism and tradition behind their art, and discuss how their art has become an aesthetic hallmark of their art. ancestral identity. The project focuses heavily on biographies of characters — often seen as themes of folklore, contemporary, and the future of tradition. 'Documentary' questions the specific history of each character while recreating the future concept of heritage, exploring how folk music and traditions are lost and restored, how personal stories intertwined with national events and how fictional stories often reveal larger truths than any mainstream fact.
